🎧 Audio Story
What staff do: listen to a short story, read aloud page by page, with pictures and the words on screen like captions. Page 1 opens right away and its clip starts a moment later. Any page can stop and ask a question: a wrong answer plays its feedback and they try again; the right answer plays its feedback, then the story moves on. The last page's green Continue button finishes the story.
Build it step by step
- Type the title. Click into the Title box at the top of Page 1 and type the story's name - it's the name shown in the module's step list. On later pages, a title is optional; one left empty doesn't show for staff.
- Type the words. Click into the Words box and type the words being read on this page. Words are required on every page - they show on screen like captions, so the story works for staff without speakers or headphones, or who are hard of hearing.
- Add pictures (optional) with 📤 Add a Picture - up to 6 a page. Each one lands in an open spot on the page.
- Add the clip. Under the page, click 📤 Upload MP3 beside Audio clip to add the recording of this page.
- Ask a question here? (optional) Under 💭 Answers, click + Add Answer (the first click adds two). Type each answer, tick Correct on the right one, and type each answer's feedback words - required, since they show on screen when it's chosen. Each answer can also have its own Feedback clip. End the page's Words with the question itself.
- Next page: click + Add Page. It goes right after the page you're on, with the same look, and you repeat steps 2 to 5.
- Arrange each page (see below), then Save.
How it plays
- A page with no answers moves on by itself when its clip ends. A page without a clip shows its Continue button right away.
- A page with answers plays its clip, then stops and asks.
- Once a page has a clip, a 🔁 Replay button shows on it, so staff can hear it again.
- Staff must listen (under the page, ticked to start) means staff can't skip ahead, or answer, until each clip finishes. It applies to the whole story. Untick it to let them.
Pages
- The tabs across the top are the pages. Click one to work on it.
- Beside each tab, ↑ and ↓ move it earlier or later, and ✕ deletes it (it asks first if the page has anything on it).
- 💭 on a tab means that page asks a question; 🔊 means it has a clip.
Arranging the page
Every page is shown at the same width staff see it, so what you lay out is what they get.
- Title and Words - move each one by its ✥ Drag to move strip along the top, and stretch or shrink it from the dark corner at its bottom right. They also grow taller on their own as you type.
- Pictures - drag one to move it, drag its dark corner to resize (it keeps its shape), and click its red ✕ to remove it.
- Answers, the Feedback box, and the buttons - drag them straight to where you want them. The Feedback box shows the longest feedback from this page's answers, so you can size it to fit.
- While you drag, a small box at the top right shows the position or size.
- Continue button text, under the page, changes what the button says.
Styling
- Click into the Title or Words, or pick a piece with a 🎨 button - Continue Button, Answer Text, Feedback, or Replay Button - then use Font, B, I, Size, and Font Color.
- In the Title and Words, highlight words first to style just those words. With nothing highlighted, it styles the whole box.
- Continue Background sets the Continue button's color - change it if your page background is green too. Answer Text and Replay Button also get a Background color while they're picked.
- Each page has its own Page Height (it only adds room - a page never gets shorter than what's on it) and Page Background.
Saving
Click Save. It first checks every page - words on each page, at least 2 answers (or none), exactly one marked Correct, and feedback words for every answer. If something's missing, it tells you, jumps to that page, and highlights what needs filling in. Check the finished story with 👁 Preview in the module list.
Audio tips
- Save clips as MP3, 64 kbps mono - clear for speech, and about half a megabyte a minute.
- Record your own voice, or use a text-to-speech tool - many are free.
- Keep each clip short - one page of the story per clip makes it easy to fix one line later.
- A clip over 5 MB asks you to check before uploading, since that's usually the wrong file, like a song.
- Replace swaps a clip; Remove takes it off. Clips are saved in your audio folder, included in backups and library exports, and never touched by updates.
